On Wednesday night, we presented Follow That Food Truck! at the 5 Across pitch competition sponsored by Awesome Inc., the Kentucky Innovation Network, Commerce Lexington, and the Lexington Venture Club. The event was held at Awesome Inc. on Main Street in downtown Lexington. Five startups presented ideas to an audience and a panel of judges.
Each of us had five minutes to convey the message of our business and convince the listeners that we have the best product. The competition was stiff. All five businesses had strong potential, but when the dust settled Follow That Food Truck! came out on top.
We’re very proud of our app and what we’ve been able to accomplish with it in just a few short months. Being evaluated by other entrepreneurs and hearing them say that our food truck app is a good idea really helped validate the time and money we’ve invested in the project so far. We knew we had something good going on, but it helped to hear it from other people.
The prize was $500, which is always nice. More than the money, though, we’re happy about the recognition and the encouragement to continue developing the app and building the business.
The win qualifies the app for the 5 Across finals in December where we will compete against four other 5 Across winners. Additionally, we have been given the opportunity to pitch at the March meeting of the Lexington Venture Club, which we’re also excited about.
We want to thank the 3,000 people who have already downloaded the app and everyone who has encouraged and advised us so far. Stay tuned for more exciting news about the project as it continues to grow.
